Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA)

UnaConnect FOTA (Firmware Over-the-Air) allows secured and controlled firmware updates across multiple networks including LTE-M, Bluetooth and WiFi. Customers subscribing to the UnaConnect platform may perform FOTA over LTE-M or Bluetooth (via the UnaInside Mobile App) for the devices under the Managed Protocol. The Managed Protocol is fully integrated between the platform and the app by UnaSecure, a proprietary encryption protocol developed by UnaBiz for NFC communications to ensure full encryption of all communications from and to the devices.

  1. Click on the device you would like to update the firmware on UnaConnect.
  2. Click on the CONFIGURATION.
  3. Change the Command to 'FOTA'.
  4. Check that the FOTA URL is correct, which should be:
  5. Then click on DONE.
  6. The device would conduct the FOTA process when it performs its next scheduled downlink, or you may manually trigger a downlink by resetting the device or unplug and replug the batteries).

  1. Open the UnaInside mobile app using a phone with NFC and Bluetooth enabled.
  2. Tap on the Update Firmware on the NFC commands list.
  3. Scan the device.
  4. A pop up to confirm or cancel the update process would display if there is new firmware available.
  5. Tap on the Update button to start the FOTA process. The progress will be shown in percentage as displayed.
⚠️ Important: Do not turn off your smartphone. Keep the smartphone’s Bluetooth enabled (for iPhone users, ensure to enable the Location Services, and enable Bluetooth in both Control Center and Settings). Stay in close proximity to the asset/device.
